Head Teacher’s Update 7/06/2024

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

The Upper Assembly discussed the significance of D-Day and reflected on UN Article 6 – The right to live and grow as a person.  The Lower Assembly also discussed Article 6.  We also had our usual singing and celebrating achievement.

Achievements

  • Mia Mencia G ( P6) has been selected for Scotland to compete in the UK tournament for Baton twirling on June 22nd
  • Well done to the girls who won the local schools football tournament.  This was the inaugural ‘Meadowspot Cup’ which was won by the Bruntsfield Girls Football Team! The P5 / P6 team who won all their group games, progressing to the Gold Final where they fought back superbly to defeat Sciennes 2-1.
The squad was:  Phoebe, Isolde, Isobel, Holly, Milly from P6 and Alice, Rose, Juno and Mollie from P5.

Bruntsfield Book

We are delighted to announce that our short story collection ‘ The Bruntsfield Zookeepers’ has now gone to print. This book contains twenty-one short stories, one written by each of our classes from P1 to P7. There will be a stall at the Summer Fair tomorrow where you can place your order. We will also be sending out an order form via Parent Pay.

Bruntsfield Football Festival

A reminder that the BPS Football boot, kit and bake sale will take place on Saturday 15th June at Harrison Park West from 10am until around 12noon. This will take place whilst each of the football teams hold an end of season fun training session and medal ceremony.

Please bring along any old boots or football strips (of any kind) to donate and perhaps pick up a pair of boots or some kit ready for next season! We also need as many donations of homebaking as possible so all donations gratefully accepted. To assist us please label any donations that contain nuts or sesame.

We will also need some volunteers to help us on the day and would be really grateful for any time you can spare. If you can help, even for part of the morning, please email bruntsfieldclubs@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you there and let’s hope the sun shines!

P7 Lagganlia Camp

Both groups had 2 amazing weeks at camp.  Their behaviour and attitude was exemplary!  Lots of praise from the staff who lead the activities at Lagganlia for Bruntsfield.  We loved our canoeing and mountain expeditions.  Big thanks to all the staff who were there 24/5 for all the children in their care:  Mrs Ramsay, Mrs Fudge, Mrs Bell, Mr Wood, Mrs McLaughlin and Mark.

School Crossing

Mr Lai, our school crossing person has to return home to Hong Kong to deal with a family issue.  This will mean there won’t be anyone in place from 17th June.  We will try to get a replacement, but in the meantime, please encourage your child to be extra careful at the junction at Montpelier Place.

Summer Fair and Festival of Rock

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow (Saturday) at our Summer Fair!  Join us from 1pm.

P7 Show

We are very excited for the P7 Show next week!  The performance will take place on Thursday 13th.  Audience should be seated by 1.45pm.  Children and staff will see the dress rehearsal on Wednesday.

The Wild Outdoors Adventure Camp

The Wild Outdoors are a provider of enriching outdoor camps during the school holidays. Located across many convenient locations in Edinburgh, such as St Georges and Colinton Road. The camps offer a wide range of activities including archery, den making, bushcraft skills, campfires, water & colour battles and much more. They believe that these experiences not only foster a love for the outdoors but also promote teamwork, resilience, and creativity.

To support a commitment to accessibility, they have provided a discount code. This will help make the experience more affordable for families within all school communities.

The camps run from 9AM – 5PM, offering much needed childcare to parents in the Summer holidays. (We offer flexible times also for Pick up & Drop

off) Please use code: WILDPA  . They also accept childcare vouchers that parents may find useful.

Kind regards,

Stephen Gilhooley
