Head Teacher’s Update 16/06/2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

We were live on screen for World Refugee Day. We heard from Amal Azzudin, an activist campaigning for refugee justice in Scotland and one of the original Glasgow Girls . Amal spoke to young people at Drumchapel High’s Anti-racist Club and Sabir Zazai (CEO of Scottish Refugee Council), about why it is important for young people to express their support for refugees and what they can do to take action.

We also celebrated our achievements and found out our ‘Class of the Week’.

Achievements

  • Well done to the P6/7 girls who got the semi finals of the Bruntsfield Cup.  Maybe next year!
  • This week, the children in primaries one to five had a super fun afternoon with author Stuart Lloyd Gould. In fact you could say it was ‘Nuts!’ Lots of audience participation.
  • Congratulations to Ruaridh in P7 who won the P7 Mountain Bike Championships.  Another champion at Bruntsfield!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Ms Hunter on her recent marriage!  We wish her and her family all the success!

From August, she will change her name from Ms Hunter to Mrs Calhoun.

Lagganlia Residential Camp

Over the last 2 weeks, the P7 children have had amazing adventures either canoeing down The River Spey or climbing the Cairngorms.  Their behaviour was excellent and sense of achievement was tangible.  Many thanks to all the staff (Mr Wood, Mrs Ramsay, Mrs McLachlan, Ms Knust, Ms Griffiths and Mark J ) for giving up their own time to make sure the 2 weeks were a complete success.

Pick up

We need the school gates to be clear so we can hand children to their parents safely at pick up.  Please stand well back to give the teachers a chance to do the child transactions smoothly.  Thanks.

Pupil Equality Group Project

The ‘Around the World Cultural Cookbook’ that the Pupil Equality Reps decided to create is now available to buy! Thank you to all the families who contributed to it, all the recipes look delicious!  The pupils in the group decided that £5 is the price to buy the recipe book. This will be e mailed to you as an online link that you can access on any device. A Parent Pay payment is now set up for you to purchase the recipe book for £5.  Once we receive the payment, the link will be sent to your e mail account.  We hope you enjoy trying out all the recipes! Mr Dobie

Parking

Unfortunately, we had another unsavoury incident involving one of our parents and others who had parked their cars adjacent to the planters on Montpelier Park.

It would be helpful if motorist did not park next to the planters as this is a busy access point for cyclists and pedestrians into Montpelier and Bruntsfield School.  Please support the school and keep our children safe!

Our next Parent Council meeting will take place on Thursday 19th June, from 8pm on zoom, and we would love to have you join in!  We will be covering the outcomes from the recent iPad survey and various updates from the Parent Council’s events & working groups and a Q&A with Mr Gilhooley.
