Dear Parents/Carers,
Mega version today!
Assembly
Mr Wood set up a World of Work Teams call with Mark Thorne from Thorne Records in our Community. We also celebrated our achievements.
Whilst this was going on, we welcomed the Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray MP to meet our Rights Respecters who told him all about our Outright Campaign and how we plan to apply for our second Gold Award for Rights Respecting Schools and UNICEF. Thanks to Mrs Nicola and Miss Doig for preparing the children for an excellent presentation.

All in all it was a brilliant day for Bruntsfield in the Gala . Proud of you all !
What has been happening in school this week?
- P1C have been learning to play different rhythms on untuned instruments and how to follow musical symbols to play a rhythm. We have even used musical symbol cards to create our own rhythms too!
- P4B have been working hard on telling the time this week and solving problems associated with time. We also created some oil pastel animals to add in to our class rainforest.
- Primary 2 have been learning about fractions. We cut fruit into equal pieces and used them to make smoothies. We wrote instructions on how to make them and talked about how fruit can keep us healthy. We had an author visit from Molly Arbuthnott who read us her book Eddie the Duckling and completed a fact sheet all about ducks. We’re learning about life cycles just now so we’ll finish a life cycle diagram for ducks tomorrow.
- P4C have been drawing pictures to represent our ideas for the Outright Campaign to share with MSP Mr Daniel Johnson. Our ideas are to try to encourage children to get off devices and exercise more in our local area. We are using our voices to help fulfil Global Goal 3 : Good Health and Wellbeing and Article 24 : You have the right to clean water, healthy food, a clean environment and good health care. When we met Mr Johnson, he suggested adding our own drawings to show our list of ideas for Edinburgh Council. Once we have finished our drawings, we will send them along with our idea list to Mr Johnson and he will present them to Edinburgh Council.
- In SfL, the P3 Rubies and Emeralds groups have been working super hard to learn their Block 4 tricky words and in their check up test this week. They have all done brilliantly!
Eco Code Competition
The committee have chosen a winning duo! Thomas’ rap motivates us to embrace the importance of being environmentally forward-thinking, while Yamlam’s code outlines practical strategies for our school and community to act. A rap challenge! Would your classes enjoy creating music to accompany Thomas’ lyrics? A GarageBand activity for the final week of term sounds like the perfect fit! (See attachments).

Edinburgh Open Workshop – Making for All Ages
Edinburgh Open Workshop will once again throw open its doors to budding makers of all ages on Saturday 29th March. Children, young people and parents from across the city are invited to sample everything that EOW has to offer – learning new skills and creating arts and crafts to take home. Now in its second year, there are even more workshops and taster sessions to choose from, with something to spark every interest. Hand carve a set of wooden tea lights; test your metal in a welding workshop; build a wooden planter from scratch; sew a tote bag; or make a personalised balance board using the CNC machine. And for mini-makers, there will be opportunities to build a birdhouse or build a dinosaur at drop-in sessions throughout the day. DIY, upcycling and home-decor enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of a Free Cycle event where surplus fabrics, props, wood and paint will be available to take home. Please check out our website for more details – www.edinburghopenworkshop.co.uk. We advise booking workshops online in advance, although some spaces may be available on the day. There will also be a choice of drop-in sessions throughout the day.
