Head Teacher’s Update 08/09/2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Meet the Teacher

We are really looking forward to seeing you at our planned ‘Meet the Teacher’ event on Tuesday 12th September.  The format will be similar to last session.  However, P1 parents will meet in their child’s class at 3.30pm.  The main event starts at 4pm and ends at 5.30pm.  I will give two general talks in the Lower Hall. The first one will start at 4pm for approximately 15 minutes.  You will then have the opportunity to go to your child’s classroom(s).  Should you prefer to come along a little later, or wish to visit the classroom first, there will be another HT talk in the Lower Hall at 4.40pm.  The staff are looking forward to meeting you.

Vision and Values Parent Consultation

I was delighted to have 25 fantastic parent participants at our Vision and Values Parent Consultation last Tuesday at 9am in our new Nurture Room. What a great turn out! We were all very reflective and came up with some amazing suggestions for a new vision, a new set of values and a motto for Bruntsfield School.  I will take these, along with our contributions from the staff and Pupil Council and select the most fitting and popular words and phrases with the Senior Leadership Team next week.  We will share our outcome with the whole school community in the next couple of weeks!!

Music

At present, we are lucky to receive ukelele tuition for all classes in P4 and P5.   In addition, we have now commenced a 6 week block of skilled music tuition from The Edinburgh Youth Music Initiative for all classes from P1-P5.  Our children are really loving singing and taking part in the planned activities!  We hope to continue to develop music across the curriculum with our staff and experts from our parent body and outwith.

Uniform

Almost all of our children are looking very smart in their school sweaters and hoodies.  However, there are a small minority who are consistently wearing casual and fashion sweaters.  We have lots of school sweaters in school we are desperate to give out. If you don’t have a school jumper, or have lost it, please email the discreet e-mail address family@bruntsfield.edin.sch.uk , or speak to the School Office.

Lost property

Our Lost Property is growing daily, please label all items brought into school (clothing, jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles etc) so items can be returned to their owners.  Lost Property will be displayed in the school playground today to be collected by parents.

Forms

P2 – P7 Parents – a reminder to return the 3 forms sent home on 18th August if you have not already done so (Annual Data Check, KIC Annual and Photo Consent Forms).

School Lunches

Please order school lunches by Wednesday evening for the following week to enable our catering staff to order the correct amount of food. School lunches can be ordered up to 250 days in advance so it would be sensible to make a block booking if you know your child would like a school lunch every day.

Kind regards,

Stephen Gilhooley
