Head Teacher’s Update 15/08/2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

We have decided, as a staff, to move Assembly as a trial to a Monday morning.  A good way to start the week with the children.  T with the HT will follow this.

An Assembly update will be included in the Friday update, as usual.

Achievements

Harris in 6A got a Silver Award in the Junior Kangaroo Maths Competition last academic year. Harris was invited to take part in the Junior Kangaroo after excelling in the Junior Maths Challenge, which acts as the qualifying round. It’s a national event run by UKMT(United Kingdom Mathematics Trust), and silver puts him in the top 20% of entrants, which is pretty impressive, especially since he only joined us after Christmas.  Well done Harris!

Uniform

We have negotiated a cheaper price for our uniform with Bruntsfield Sports.  I include the link for your reference.

Should you wish additional help with uniforms, we have lots of good quality seconds. Please get in touch with us at our discreet email address: Family@Bruntsfield.edin.sch.uk

Please note, sweaters with a logo on it are not mandatory across Edinburgh.   However, I know a lot of our parents like to have their child in our uniform.  If we can help, please get in touch.

  • P7 – navy hoody, white polo (plain or badged) and dark trousers/skirt.
  • P1-P6 – Light blue sweater, white polo (plain or badged) and dark trousers/skirt.  A cardigan, pinafore or blue summer dress may also be appropriate.

Gardening

Many thanks to all our parent volunteers who watered and cared for the plants in the playground over the summer break. It has helped the plants to survive many warm days, as well as some stormy weather, and they are looking great!

We are looking for more parents to join our group. If anyone would like to join the project, email bruntsfieldplayground@gmail.com

VIP Visitor for our 130th Year!

I am excited to share that Jason Connery has agreed to unveil a small plaque to his Dad at Bruntsfield.  Sean had attributed his success to learning to read at Bruntsfield School.  We will have a small ceremony at 2pm in the front playground.  All welcome.

Swimming

City of Edinburgh Council have chosen to teach P5 swimming this session and not P4 as has been the case in previous years.  P4 will get their lessons next year.
