Head Teacher’s Update 26/06/2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

We all attended an emotional Leavers Assembly this morning (Friday).

Firstly, the Catherine Gerrard Art Award went to Finn from P7 for his amazing array of art work.  The standard was extremely high and it was very difficult to choose.  Thanks to her two daughters Lottie and Sophie for supporting their mother’s legacy and to Mrs Bowes for co-ordinating everything.

The P7s received their yearbook and we said goodbye to staff who are leaving us – Miss Scalas, Miss Biswas, Miss Cumming, Mrs Ross, Mrs Drummond (EAL) and Mr Smith who is retiring.  We wish them all the best.

Rights Respecting Schools

We are delighted to announce that Bruntsfield Primary School has been awarded UNICEF’s Gold Rights Respecting Schools award for a second time!  Well done to all the Rights Respecters, children and staff who have worked so hard to ensure Children’s Rights are at the heart of everything we do.

Thanks to Mrs Nicol and Ms Doig for all that you do to promote our school.

What else has been happening in School this week?

  • On Monday we all moved classrooms.
  • On Tuesday we had the P7 Show dress rehearsal and show for parents in the afternoon.
  • On Wednesday we had the Talent Show (am), then ‘meet our new class and teacher’ (pm).
  • On Thursday we had our Leavers’ Assembly and Leavers were piped out of school at 1pm.

Achievements

  • Harris M (P3C) raised an impressive £335 for Cancer Research UK, by being sponsored to do a 5k Muddy Kids Race on The Meadows. There were some tricky obstacles and it was his first 5k, but he had a great time and got very wet and muddy! Well done Harris!
·        Haruo U (P5C) has been selected to represent Scotland as a member of the U12 Scottish chess team in the upcoming Stokes Cup. Stokes Cup is a part of the Glorney Gilbert festival, which is an annual junior team chess competition between Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. This will be held in Wales, 28th to 30th of July 2025. Congratualations!
  • P6A took part in an Edinburgh City wide Minecraft Challenge to explore and represent the rich traditions of world religions and festivals. The class completed research of a number of religions, identifying significant buildings, festivals and traditions to help them selected an idea for a Minecraft build. They planned everything and designed their build before completing their build. All builds highlighted the diversity, beauty, and cultural significance of traditions from around the globe. Lucy D, Bronwyn B and Sophie S presented their build and ranked 2nd in the final city results. We’re SO proud of you!

Don’t forget!

Bruntsfield School will reopen to pupils on Wednesday 13th August at the usual times.

Have a great summer!

Kind regards,

Stephen Gilhooley
