Head Teacher’s Update 16/05/2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

Today (Friday) we talked about resilience and how it can help us in our learning and in life.

130th Anniversary

On 23rd May, to launch our 130th Anniversary celebrations, a famous ex-pupil, Grant Stott will lead our Assembly.  He will talk about his happy time in Bruntsfield and promises to share a few photographs from his past!  This is something to look forward to!

Sports Day

Thanks to all who came along to watch and support the children. The winners this year were Viewforth.

We all had a great time and our P7 helpers were excellent, keeping everyone right. Special thanks to Mrs Ramsay and Mrs McLachlan for organizing the event.

What’s been happening around school?

  • P1A have been learning about the life cycle of a plant. The children have been exploring planting different seeds and we have been discussing what they need to grow. We have been learning appropriate vocabulary, such as photosynthesis and seedling.
  • Last week, P4B were very excited to receive a letter from First Minister John Swinney. He acknowledged the letter we sent him in response to our ongoing OutRight Campaign. Additionally P4B have been working on money problems and using addition and subtraction strategies to solve these.

Achievements

·        Last week, the Bruntsfield P6/7 girls played the Sciennes Cup.  They came second, beaten by James Gillespies in the final.
·        On Thursday, our girls also played in the EPSSA Girls Summer cup group stages. We won our group and go into the finals in two weeks time. We won our games against Juniper Green (4-1), Flora Stevensons (6-0) and ESMS (4-1). This was a team made up of p7’s and some club players from p6. The finals are at Meggetland 2 weeks on Thursday.

Parent Consultations
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next weeks are our 3 Parent Consultation evenings.  We will try to keep to schedule, so please be prompt. Each appointment will be 10 minutes long. Mrs English and Mrs Johnson from Support for Learning will be available at your allotted time, if applicable.  Mrs King, our Transition Teacher will be in attendance in the Stage Hall for a chat to our P7 parents on Wednesday only.

Friday morning Parents Coffee Morning

Next Friday (23rd May from 9:00am-9:45am) we will be having a visit from Carol Golightly (a school dentist) who will provide us with the latest advice on kids’ dental hygiene.

Do join us for a cup of tea/coffee and chat about this topic in the Nurture Room.

See you there!

Football boot swap

Bruntsfield school football will be holding a football boot sale/swap stand at the school fair on 31st May. We need your old boots! If you have a pair to donate please take them up to school on Friday 23rd or Monday 26th. There will be a box in the playground to put them in.

On the day you will be able to either swap your old boots for a new (to you) pair or pick up a new pair for a small donation with all funds going to school football.

Monday Holiday

Don’t forget! Monday is a holiday.  See you back at Bruntsfield on Tuesday 20th at the usual times.

Kind regards,

Stephen Gilhooley
