Dear Parents/Carers,
P6 overnight Camp
P6 spent part of their week in Bonaly Camp exploring new activities and applying new and learned skills. Each child had 2 days of activities with Outdoor Learning Instructors and an overnight stay at the Scout Centre. We learned to encourage and challenge ourselves and others to climb walls and abseil back down, navigate the wilds of the Pentland Hills, get their teams over obstacles and rope challenges, improve our archery skills and safely light fires. Some groups even cooked their own popcorn!
This will be step 2 of our major planned pathway leading to a week long experience at Lagganlia. Next month, P5 will have an extended day at Bonaly and P7 will attend Lagganlia in June. Thanks to all staff who gave up their time to ensure the camps were a big success! We will continue using our skills throughout the year in many different contexts.
Flu Forms
Please have your Flu Forms handed back to the class teacher by Friday 30th August.
School lunches
Please ensure you book your lunches for the following week at the latest by 10pm on the previous Wednesday.
Building Resilience – August/September 2024
Look on the Bright Side
We can all look at the same situation from different perspectives. Sometimes the way we think about things that happen to us, can have a bigger impact on our wellbeing than the event itself. When we get stuck in the negative, research has found that questioning and challenging some of our thinking or focusing on the positive things in our life or what we are grateful for can be a helpful way to change our mood. Resilient people are not immune to change, misfortune or adversity. They are better able to make sense of their experiences, by finding meaning and perspective in order to help them to move forward. In this unit, Skipper overhears an unkind comment about him. The comments go round and round in his head and he starts to believe that they may be true. Using his ‘Helpful, Thinking Helmet’ he is able to question these thoughts and find ways to feel better.
In this unit, we will be learning that: • The way you think can affect the way you feel. • There are different ways of looking at the same thing. • Focusing on what you are grateful for can help.
Talk it Over: Talk to your child about the things you are grateful for in your life.
Family Task: Create your own Memory Jar of things that you are grateful for. Your jar will help you to build and remember memories to help you through difficult times and help you to savour the positive moments in your life.

Love Music Junior Choir
Love Music Junior Choir is a big choir for young people aged 8-12 from all across Edinburgh. We sing a diverse range of music from across the world in different languages, specially arranged for us and directed by our inspirational leaders Clare Bauld and Sally Jaquet. We rehearse and perform in the iconic Usher Hall, accompanied by jazz legend Dave Milligan.
You don’t need any experience, you don’t need to have a great singing voice, and there are no auditions – just bring your enthusiasm! The rehearsals are relaxed and fun. You will make new friends in a supportive and inclusive space and will enjoy the thrill of performing on the Usher Hall stage. Junior Choir rehearses from 4.30-5.30pm on Monday afternoons for 8 weeks within school terms. You sign up in advance for one term at a time, to allow progression through the sessions. Term dates can be found on our website.
If you would like to join, please register online at www.juniorchoir.lovemusic.org.uk. No internet? Call or text us on 07425 213 521 and we’ll get back to you.
Kind regards,
