Head Teacher’s Update 8/12/2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Festive Tree

We now have our 3rd tree up in the Stage Hall looking resplendent and ready for parties and the P1 Nativity.  This was gifted free by our Local Christmas Tree Sales at McLarens. Thanks to our PC Chair Jay for being our chief negotiator!

Winter Fair

Many thanks to all our parents, children and community for a wonderful, successful Winter Fair.  I believe we raised over £3000, which is a fantastic achievement!

Bake Sale

The children have been busy getting ready for their first bake sale next Friday. The school choir will be singing carols and there will be a table with some crafts the kids plan to sell. Can you help? They need lots of cakes, cookies, breads, pizzas, fruits. Any kind of bake is allowed, just please avoid anything with nuts. Also, we need some parents to help during the event. It’s the best opportunity for the kids to learn how to run an event and for the parents to be a part of it.

The bake sale will start at 10:30am just for the kids then at 11:30am it will be open to the parents and their families.

School milk and support with paying

Term 2 milk will start after the Christmas holidays. If your child would like milk at school and you have not yet ordered please pay for this via ParentPay.  The daily charge is 22p per 189ml carton which equates to £11.66 for Term 2. The closing date to pay for Term 2 milk will be Friday 22nd December.
If you are eligible for free school meals, milk and clothing grants then the milk will be supplied free of charge. Please respond to this email advising if your child would like to be added to the list. More information and the eligibility requirements to apply for school grants is detailed in the undernoted link, please copy and paste this into your browser.

Edinburgh Hockey Club

Edinburgh Hockey Club run a satellite club supported by Active Schools Edinburgh. It is open for P5 to S2s.

This serves 2 main purposes:

•                    To allow players new to the game the opportunity to play without the commitment of joining the full club

•                    To give players on our waiting list the opportunity to experience some of our coaching and get some extra pitch time while waiting on an opportunity

The club runs at Meggetland Sports Complex on a Friday from 4.30pm to 5.40pm.

Registration is via our club website https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/calaedinburghhockeyclub. Click the “Join” button and enter your details as Parent – during the process you will be asked to add your child’s name and you should select ‘Satellite Meggetland’ as their team. If you have any problems with this process please contact me at the e-mail below. The cost is per term and is best paid via the web-site. Per session payment is possible if you join late. You are welcome to have a go before paying for the term but we do ask that you pay for any sessions attended if you decide not to stay. Players should have shinguards and mouthguards. We have a few sticks so please let us know if you will need to borrow one while you try us out. They can usually be obtained very reasonably at Sports Direct or on the web.

December Events

Please log on to Parent Pay and ensure you have paid for the two main festive events this year – the trip to the Cinema and Christmas Parties.  The school have already paid for these events upfront and will lose money if we don’t receive full payment from the Parent body.

Lost Property

Our Lost Property has increased considerably over the last few weeks!  We have the trolley out in the front playground every Friday.  Please label everything (including lunch boxes) and encourage your child to check their bag every day.  The teachers will check with then class before they leave also.times

Friday 22nd December

A reminder that school will end at the usual Friday times on the last day of term.  P6s will have their last ski-ing of the year.  Class teachers and Mrs Ramsay will confirm pick up times for those children.

Kind regards,

Stephen
