Assembly
The focus of Friday’s assembly was Global Goals and Metaskills. A refresher on what they are and how they can help us in our lives and learning. We had time to showcase some of the musical talent we have in our school currently. We also had lots of certificate winners.
School Improvement 2026-2027
Following our evaluations from last session, we have identified two overarching themes this session in our Improvement Plan for 2026-2027.
- Continue to improve learning and teaching to ensure consistency, quality of experience and improve outcomes for all learners.
Our outcomes:
- Staff become skilled in the Edinburgh Pupil Tracking Online Tool to analyse data confidently.
- Staff can use data and evidence to evaluate learning and teaching more accurately and identify next steps in learning.
- Continue to embed our new writing programme, ‘The Write Stuff’. Plan well and celebrate success with our learners.
- Learners experience greater consistency in expectations, support, challenge, feedback and opportunities to lead and share learning.
- Children and Young People take responsibility for their own learning and progress. Improve skills to lead learning and others.
Outcomes:
- Pupils have increased opportunities to discuss progress with their teacher.
- Reflective learning walks with Pupil Council and feedback shared.
- Learner Conversations with Senior Leadership Team at different times of the year.
- Pupils consulted and involved in playground plans.
- Pupils regularly involved in IDL, planning and next steps in learning.
- Rights Respecters continue to promote awareness of Global Goals and all issues relating to democracy, citizenship and critical/independent thinking.
Meet the Teacher – Tuesday 8th September (4pm – 5pm)
Come along and meet the new class teacher, look around the classroom and find out what your child will be learning this session. Mr. Gilhooley will host two curriculum and whole school updates in the School Hall lasting 15 minutes each. One at 4pm and one at 4.30pm.
P1A and P1B Meet The Teacher 3:45pm – 4:30pm. A presentation from the Class Teacher on everything you need to know as a new P1 parent (no creche facility).
Lost Property
We are 2.5 weeks into the start of the new session and we already have mounds of lost property! Most sweatshirts and cardigans are unmarked, so we don’t know who they belong to.
Please ensure your child’s sweatshirt, cardigan, jumper or coat has their name written or sewn onto the collar.
Cauliflower Cards
We know it is early! However, to raise money for our P7 yearbook, your child will come home with a Christmas Card design attached to a form. Please follow the information on the form carefully and return the form with artwork attached back to your class teacher no later than 20th of October. Please pop this date in your calendars as final submission date! More information on this to come.
Parent Forum meeting – you’re invited!
All parents, carers and school staff are warmly invited to the first Parent Forum meeting of the new school year.
NYCOS
The NYCOS choir starts back this week and there are opportunities for all children to join.
NYCOS connects with schools and young people locally, and are keen to keep building those relationships — both by welcoming more young singers into the choir and by finding opportunities to work with schools in the future.
NYCOS is a great complement to school learning, with proven benefits in literacy and numeracy. The musicianship programme develops aural skills, musical understanding and confidence — valuable skills that young people can take into everything else they do in school.
