Head Teacher’s Update 29/11/2024

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly

Today’s 2 assemblies celebrated St. Andrews Day and all things Scottish!  The Upper Assembly told the story of the patron of Scotland and the Lower Assembly heard the Gruffalo in Scots.

Achievements

  • The Edinburgh and Midlothian Schools Swimming Championships took place last weekend, with the primary schools’ event held on Sunday 17th November at Stewart Melville College.  Two Bruntsfield pupils met the tough qualification times for the 50m events. Matthew K (P7) swam the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke races,  whilst Silas N (P6) swam the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly races. Against some tough competition (with medallists heading to the Scottish Schools events in January, and some already age group champions in their events) both the Bruntsfield boys did brilliantly, posting individual fast times and PBs, and doing the school proud. Most of the boys competing were P7s, so Silas did particularly well to be there, and hopefully he’ll be back again next year!
  • Jan M P4A won a Scotland-wide Polish Independence Day Patriotic Song Contest in his age category. The contest is organised by Polish Saturday schools in Scotland and it’s a nice opportunity to children (and adults) to spend time together as a community. Jan goes to Polish School each Friday after Bruntsfield. He has worked really hard memorising tricky words and was very brave to sing on a big stage.
  • Well done to all our P6 and P7 children who sang in the Usher hall this week.  You have done your school proud!
  • Congratulations to Maya (P5A) for her fantastic design! Her artwork, alongside winners from other schools, will be rewarded at a special prize-giving ceremony hosted by Ian Murray MP, where the overall winner will be revealed. The ceremony will take place at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre on Friday 13th December.
  • Well done to Elsie (P2) who won the Lord Provost’s Christmas Cards. Photo attached.

Registrations for P1 next session are open until the Winter Holidays.  Please spread the word around the community.

P7A visit to Malin Group

P7A attended the Malin Group Headquarters on Monday in Glasgow to see Erin’s 3D design (see attached).  They made it through for more STEM fun – barges and marble runs. The company was most generous and provided great games and a chocolate Santas for all! Even a Malin Group ‘youngest engineer’ baby grow for baby Bell (Mrs Bells’s child to be!)

Volunteer to help with painting

We are looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate the painting of the inside of one of our playground shelters. We are hoping that a group of parent volunteers could carry out the painting, perhaps over a weekend and are looking for someone to lead this. If you might be interested or would like some more information, please contact Ms Lamond through the school office.
