Edinburgh Science Festival is back for another year of family fun and discovery over the Easter holiday!
The theme of this year’s Festival, Going Global, recognizes that scientific discovery is rarely made in isolation – it requires a collaboration of people and cultures from around the world.
The Edinburgh Science Festival is on from 4 – 19 April 2026, and 35% of the Festival’s family-focused activities and events are FREE.
Parents can browse the full programme of events on the What’s On page of our website or by downloading the digital brochure.

Seasons for Growth Parent & Carer Programme
Please see below, courses for parents and carers supporting children and young people experiencing bereavement, loss or separation. The course aims to help parents and carers better understand the experience of death, bereavement, separation and divorce from a child’s perspective. The programme focuses on how to communicate with their child using the Seasons for Growth approach, while looking after themselves.
Parents and carers looking to support their children through change and loss will.

Learn about how children respond to change, loss and grief.
Understand that it is normal to have a range of grief reactions.
Explore new approaches to change, loss and grief in the lives of their children.
Build communication, decision making and problem-solving skills.
Participate in a supportive network of adults.
Integrate their new learning into their family relationships.
Courses will run for two hours, over three weeks. This is a new course we are piloting, and we aim to run a small number of community-based courses each term, alongside colleagues who have trained and are delivering within school and learning community settings.
Grief and loss are common themes that come through for parents and carers; we hope that the course can go some way to help parents and carers feel a little more equipped.
Kind regards,
Stephen Gilhooley
