Dear Parents/Carers,
Assembly
Today we introduced Black History Month and why it is significant for us then and today. We also sang and celebrated all our achievements.
EPIC (P6)
Half of our P6 cohort spent two exciting days and one night at Bonaly Camp on Wednesday and Thursday this week. We had an amazing time learning new skills outdoors. The children learned how to use steel and flint to make a fire safely, they climbed and built confidence, they learned how to use teamwork to get across a series of low ropes and obstacles, and they navigated climbing through a river.
The children all were a credit to Bruntsfield and to their family. Looking forward to cohort 2 going next week.
P3 Show
We held our Annual P3 Harvest Show in Bruntsfield this morning (Friday). The children performed brilliantly and it was a fantastic show as usual! We hosted the charity ‘Social Bite’ who thanked all our generous families who donated foodstuff for people in our community less fortunate than ourselves.
Many thanks to all the P3 Staff Team including our staff who don’t normally work a Friday. Everyone ensured the children did so well and had the best experience.
Cauliflower Cards
Each year we ask children to create a Holiday design that parents have the option to purchase cards and other items which will have this design on them. We acknowledge not all families celebrate Christmas, therefore many pupils are given the option to identify another holiday to design for. You will receive your child’s design attached to a form home over the next week. Please read the form carefully. If you choose to make a purchase or not, please send this back to school as soon as possible and no later than 20th October.
This is a fundraising project raising money for Primary 7 yearbooks.
School lunches
Please remember to book school lunches for after the October break by 10pm on Wednesday 7th October. This is to enable our catering staff to order the required food prior to the October break. Lunches can be booked up to 60 days in advance, so we recommend doing this.
October Break
Just a reminder that we close for the October Break next Friday 9th October at the usual time. We return on Tuesday 20th October.

If any families are looking for childcare during the October school holidays, they are very welcome to get in touch with us to register their interest. Our team can then provide further information and help arrange a booking.
We would really appreciate it if you could share this information with families who may benefit from our Holiday Club.

Flotilla of Lights
It’s that time of the year again! The Lowland Canals Association (LCA) is making final preparations for the much-anticipated Flotilla of Lights on the Union Canal in Edinburgh.
This magical event has become a cherished tradition in our community, eagerly awaited by boaters and the public alike. As in previous years, we are reaching out to local schools and community groups to invite everyone to take part in what promises to be a spectacular celebration.
🗓 Date: Saturday, 7th November 2026
📍 Start Location: Harrison Park
⏰ Start Time: 18:30
🛶 Route: Eastward along the canal, ending at Edinburgh Quay
The flotilla of beautifully lit boats will create a dazzling display, which will be visible for about 45 minutes from any spot along the canal between the first and last boat. The first boat is expected to reach the Leamington Lift Bridge around 19:00, and the last by approximately 19:45.
To help everyone enjoy the event safely and comfortably, we encourage the public to spread out evenly along the towpath between Harrison Park and the Leamington Lift Bridge. The display will be equally impressive from all viewing points!
We invite attendees to bring lanterns or candles to light up the towpath and help create a truly magical atmosphere. To add to the fun, we’ll be handing out treats to those who bring a lit up lantern!
Creating your own lantern can be a fun workshop activity, especially for children. We’ve attached a printable lantern template (A4 size) that you’re welcome to use.
