We celebrated our win at the Saroj Lal Equality and Excellence in Diversity Awards with Nika our P5 winner.

Our theme this week was our value of Perseverance.  We watched the Brownlee Brothers helping one another over the line during a race.  The Class of the Week was P6C.

A group of P7 pupils across the classes attended the Edinburgh and Lothians Schools Film Awards Final event on Tuesday. From over 70 films, their film Hot Ticket was shortlisted in 3 categories: Visuals, Performance and Sound. They found success in the Sound category, being recognised for the diaglogue, music and voice overs. Well done!

Last day of term (Friday 26^th June)

We are very lucky that 3 of our P7 pupils, Axel, Oscar and Jack have volunteered to pipe their P7 peers out of school.  This year we will take the same route through school, but this year they will lead the P7 to the back playground adjacent to the Old Community Nursery building.  This will give more space for parents and 130 children to chat before heading home.  All P7 families should make their way to this area for 12pm.

Medicine

To ensure a secure and safe handover, could all parents with children who take medicine at school collect it from their teacher?  Teachers will be in the playground at the beginning and end of day.

Jumper Swap

A reminder that you’re invited to swap your school jumpers for a size up all next week, by hanging them on the railings outside school. Children can be uniform-free next week, to facilitate the washing/swapping!’

Booking Deadlines

• You can book meals up to 60 days in advance.
• Bookings must be placed by 10pm on Wednesdays for the following week.

Cost & Financial Support

• P1 to P5: Lunches remain completely free.
• P6 and P7: Lunches cost £2.65 per day.
• Support for Families: If you are on a low income, you may be eligible for financial help with lunches, milk, and school uniform costs. You can apply for school grants here.
• Milk Payments for August 2026 to Jun 2027 (for P1-P6 Parents)
  The milk payments for the next school year will be termly, these 3 payments are now available to pay via ParentPay.  The daily charge to be applied from August 2026 remains at 24p per 189ml carton. This equates to £45.60 for the full academic year or £20.64 for Term 1, £13.44 for Term 2 and £11.52 for Term 3.  The closing date to pay for Term 1 Milk will be Friday 7th August, reminders for closing dates for Term 2 and Term 3 will be sent nearer the time. You can either pay all 3 payments now if you know your child will want milk for the full year or pay each term.

Bruntsfield After School Clubs

Just a reminder that there will be no clubs running next week, as it is the final week of the school term. Recognition of P7 Football Coaches

Boys

The current P7 boys football team began its journey when the players were in Primary 3. Led by Tim Peace and assisted by David Redpath. 

The boys joined the City of Edinburgh Council seven-a-side fixtures in Primary 4- and over the next four years, a dedicated group of volunteer coaches gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to support the team. Alongside Tim and David, Barnes Darcus, Dominic Harrison, Murray Littlewood, Basil Reid Thomas, Gordon Syme, Chris Watts and Steven West all played important roles in helping the boys develop both as footballers and teammates.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed their Saturday morning matches at Harrison Park and venues across the city. Local derbies against James Gillespie’s and South Morningside produced many unforgettable moments, while encounters with the ever-impressive Buckstone side became some of their most memorable challenges.

In Primary 7, the squad welcomed a number of new players, allowing the school to field two teams on Saturday mornings for the first time. This growth highlighted the importance of having a committed and enthusiastic coaching team supporting the programme.

The team enjoyed notable success in Primary 7, progressing to the second round of the Inspectors Cup. Victories over Fox Covert and Wardie in the opening round were followed by an impressive win over Corstorphine in round two.  While results and trophies are part of the story, the lasting legacy of this group lies in the friendships formed, the confidence built and the countless memories created over five years of football together.

Tim, David and all of the volunteer coaches have given up countless weekends and evenings to provide opportunities for the children to play, compete, develop and enjoy the game. Their dedication, generosity and commitment have made a lasting difference to the lives of many young people, and Bruntsfield Primary School is immensely grateful for everything they have contributed.

Girls

As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to take the opportunity to recognise three outstanding volunteers who will be leaving the Bruntsfield Primary girls’ football programme this summer: Anna Forsyth, Lisa Thompson, and Bobby Seiler.

Between them, they have dedicated more than five years of their time, energy and enthusiasm to creating a football programme that is welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable for every child involved. They have given up countless weekends coaching, spent evenings planning sessions and organising activities, and have always gone above and beyond to provide memorable experiences for our girls.

During their time with the programme, they have helped lead teams to the semi-finals of the EPSSA Cup, the final of the Sciennes Tournament, and enabled players to enjoy unforgettable opportunities such as walking out of the tunnel at Easter Road. They also played a key role in launching the Bruntsfield Cup, which has quickly become a highlight of the school sporting calendar.

Lisa Thompson, our lead coach, has been instrumental in fostering a strong sporting culture around girls’ football at Bruntsfield. Whether welcoming children with a smile, wiping away tears after a difficult result, offering words of encouragement, or celebrating success, Lisa has always ensured that every child felt valued, supported and included.

Bobby Seiler has worked tirelessly to develop the girls’ confidence, encourage them to play “the Bruntsfield Way”, and support their growth both as footballers and as young people. Many of our current P7 girls have been involved with the programme since Primary 2, and the fact that so many have continued their football journey is a testament to the fun, inclusive and supportive environment that Bobby and Lisa have created together.

Their dedication has helped build something special. Thanks to their years of hard work and sacrifice, many of these girls will continue playing football as they move on to secondary school, taking with them not only football skills but also confidence, friendships and lasting memories.

A special mention must also go to Anna Forsyth, who has coordinated the girls’ football programme since 2021. While coaches are often the visible face of a programme, Anna has been the driving force behind so much of what happens behind the scenes. She has devoted countless hours to organising strips, goals and equipment, coordinating PVG checks and winter lets, managing competition registrations, supporting fundraising activities, organising coach gifts, running boot sales and bake sales, and, of course, helping establish and grow the Bruntsfield Cup. Anna has always been there to support coaches, offer advice, lend a helping hand and cheer on the girls from the sidelines. Her commitment, organisation and enthusiasm have been fundamental to the programme’s success. As she hands over the reins this summer, she leaves the girls’ football programme in a far stronger position than she found it.

On behalf of the players, coaches, parents and wider school community, thank you, Anna, Lisa and Bobby. Your dedication, kindness and commitment have enriched the lives of our departing P7 children, and your contribution to girls’ football at Bruntsfield will not be forgotten.

Message from the Filmhouse (Lothian Road)

We are approaching our first birthday weekend at the start of the summer holidays, and we have a weekend of low-cost family activities planned!

On the mornings of Saturday 27^th and Sunday 28^th June, we will be playing birthday party games in our café-bar space from 10am-11am. This is free and unticketed – all are welcome!  At 11am, we will be showing a family film (at the reduced cost of £6 per ticket for both adults and children). On Saturday, this will be the popular Dog Man (U) and on Sunday this will be much-loved Fantastic Mr Fox (PG).  After the films, we are inviting families to join us for some free easy crafting to celebrate the birthday in our workshop space, and for colouring-in in the café- bar  We would love to welcome lots of families over the weekend to join in our celebrations and would so appreciate this being shared with your school communities – whether Filmhouse is a familiar or new place, we’d love to welcome you!  Films can be booked in advance through our website here or at box office, and the games and crafts are drop-in and free!
