Head Teacher’s Update 26/05/2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Assembly themes this week
• P1 – P3 experienced a ‘Challenge your Mindset’ reflection assembly. This is the current ‘Building Resilience’ unit.
• To mark Cultural Diversity Day this week, P5-P7 explored what cultural diversity means to us and how we can embrace differences in our community and globally.

Sports Day
Wednesday was our planned day for our annual Sports Day and what an amazing day we had – fun and weather wise! All 3 events went extremely well. All our children and staff had a great time. It was also great to see so many families and friends attending. Many thanks to our organisers Mrs Ramsay and Mrs McLachlan for their time and efforts.

Uniform
We have been noticing a drop in children wearing the school colours. We currently have lots of school sweaters in school, free of charge. If your child has lost theirs or grown out of their clothes, let us know at the Office or through our special e-mail family@bruntsfield.edin.sch.uk.

School Lunches/Parent Pay
This weekend, please set some time aside to check your Parent Pay balance and ensure you have ordered school lunches up until the end of term.

Pupil Support Officer
Our new Pupil Support Officer (PSO) Alexandra Burns will be joining us on Monday 29th May. She hopes to start contacting families, new projects and designing our new family/nurture space immediately. We look forward to announcing lots of new and exciting events and activities.

P2 Show
Congratulations to the P2 children and Staff for a wonderful show focussed on climate change. We all had fun and learned a great deal about saving our planet!

Our Community
When assembled in Montpelier waiting at the beginning or end of the day, please make sure we respect our neighbours. One resident in particular feels she is disturbed a lot by our families during these times. Please remind your children to be aware of the residents and their properties.

Chicken Pox
Chicken Pox is active in all schools at the moment. Bruntsfield have had 11 new cases this week. Please be vigilant.
Children who have chickenpox should stay off school or nursery for a minimum of 5 days after the start of the rash or until the blisters become dry if longer.
Further information on Chickenpox can be obtained by contacting the NHS Lothian Health Protection Team on 0300 790 6264 or online by visiting NHS Choices at http://www.nhs.uk/Pages/HomePage.aspx.

P7 Camp
I will be away with Primary 7 Group 1 next week in Lagganlia, near Aviemore. We are all looking forward to an amazing time! 3 of our fantastic Senior Leadership Team – Ms Lamond, Ms Dobie and Ms Nicol will be available in school to support and assist during this time. I will be back next Friday afternoon.

Kind regards,

Stephen Gilhooley
