Head Teacher’s Update 18/11/2022

Dear Parents/Carers,

Industrial Action

You’ll now be aware that members of the teaching unions will be on strike next Thursday 24th November.  It looks likely that it will go ahead.  All schools in Edinburgh will close on this day. We will keep you informed next week.

New ‘Family’ Inbox

We are really pleased to introduce our ‘Family’ e-mail In-box.  Money isn’t going far these days and finances can be tight for a lot of families. We want to make it easy for our parents and carers to access help and support using a discreet pathway.  Mr Gilhooley and Mrs Nicol can access and respond to any messages sent to our new address, ensuring privacy and subtlety.

We can help and support with Uniform, School Meals, Trips, residentials etc.  In addition, we have spoken to Stefan (After School Clubs) who is happy to generate discount codes through the clubs online booking system and pass them on via our new e-mail contact direct to those who request it.

Please get in touch! Family@bruntsfield.edin.sch.uk

Scottish Book Week

All our Bruntsfield Learners had an amazing week during Scottish Book Week! Classes took part in paired reading with another class. Everyone visited our story tent in the playground and listened to some amazing books and stories!  We had a fantastic and popular Book Swap on Monday, and all children watched a Scottish Book Trust’s author event in class during the week. See the photographs of the week yourself on Twitter at our official site @BPSlearners.

Children’s Parliament

We had 3 leaders from the Scottish Children’s Parliament work with our Primary 6 this week.  They were involved in some really exciting and fun activities and discussions about rights, empowerment and participation.  Feedback was very positive – we are very confident and one of the happiest schools!

Children in Need Bake Sale

Alice and Tünde from P6B are doing a Bake Sale to raise money for Children in Need on Sunday 20th November, from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Links!  Please go along, say hi and give them a bit of support!

Information about the last day of term (Tuesday 20th December)

Please note that Bruntsfield Primary school will finish at 1pm on the last day of term, Tuesday 20th December.  This is to ensure that all pupils are provided with a soup and sandwich lunch.  If your child would prefer to bring in their own packed lunch on that day they can do so.  The school packed lunch option must be ordered as soon as possible to enable our catering staff to order the sandwiches to be delivered.  If your child would like a school packed lunch on the last day of term please place the order via ParentPay by Wednesday 7th December.

Have a lovely weekend!

Stephen Gilhooley
