Head Teacher’s Blog 25/03/2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

  • There is a lovely atmosphere of children enjoying each other’s company and engaging in all their lessons in the school. All the staff have ensured the children’s health and wellbeing is a priority and are pleased with the children’s progress. If you have any questions, or information you wish to share, bookings are open for Parent Consultation meetings from Monday 26 – Thursday 29 April. The timing is good as it has given a chance for everyone to settle back into school routines.
  • Competition Winner: Alfred in P2B won pack of books from a competition he entered whilst Learning at Home organised by Cureadosity. He is very kindly going to donate his prize to the school library for everyone to enjoy. Well done and thank you Alfred!
  • Autism Day is Friday 2 April.Children are invited to share their experiences with their classes, teachers, pupil support assistants, our support for learning and leadership teams or myself before or after the holidays.
  • Read Write Count P3 Bag Unpacked: This video project was launched on the Moray House learning and resource pages at https://www.ed.ac.uk/education/professional-learning/resources/read-write-count-collaborative There are top-tips and links for parents and carers and activities which encourage families to be creative together. The explicit links to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing are highlighted, echoing the very useful table of Experiences and Outcomes linked to the Read Write Count P3 Bag activities, although it seems a very long time since we gave them out!
  • The correct link to last week’s Discover Flyer is: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=af6sSGo3tUKfacnke7-5xORIqqJbI4lOmdo3_4kcYtdUQ0tGMUFSQjdXVVhYOE1OV05SMlA3Q0hTRS4u Apologies if you were not able to access it from the original flier.
  • Equalities:
    • 25 March is the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. I found the Museum in Liverpool explained this really well. It is well worth a visit if you are looking for an interesting weekend once we are allowed to travel. We shall continue to develop our curriculum to reflect this as we build our own knowledge and skills.

LGBT Youth Scotland have shared the following:

Easter Holidays: Our last day of term is Thursday 1 April 2021, with normal finishing times. Kidzcare and Schools Out will be available on the Thursday afternoon if you wish to book a place.

If there is anything I, or another member of the staff team can do to help, please let us know at admin@bruntsfield.edin.sch.uk

Kind regards,

Carol Kyle
