Playground Improvement Starting Date
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am very pleased to say the playground improvement work starts on Monday 08 February following our planning meeting today. This means different parts of the rear section of the playground will be closed at different times during this work. On Monday, teachers will show the children where to line up as the project progresses, however, I thought you may like to know the plan too.
The first section involves resurfacing of the area at the East side of the rear playground (Community Nursery side).
This additional work is funded by City of Edinburgh Council and is in addition to our school playground improvements. Doing this now, will avoid disturbing our playground once the project is completed.
During this time, classes P3A, P3B, P5C, P7A, P7B, P7C will line up at rear of the West side of the school, at the football area, and enter through Door 4. When this section is complete, they will line up in their usual place. Breakfast Club and Kidzcare will enter and leave through the main school door during this work, which is expected to last a week.
The second section is our main playground improvement, as planned by parents, staff and pupils, with the financial support of Sport Scotland. This involves closing the area to the rear of the West side of the school (football area and the section along the back). This is expected to start during the February break and should be completed before the Easter Holidays.
During this time, classes P4A, P4B, P4C, P5A, P5B, P6A, P6B will line up at the rear of the East side of the school, next to the Community Nursery and they will enter through Door Number 1. Breakfast Club will enter via the main door. Collection from Kidzcare will be from the Annex Building in the rear playground as usual.
Throughout this work, P1 and P2 pupils will continue to line up as normal at the front of the school.
We shall reorganise breaks and lunches, as needed, during this period to accommodate these works.
I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the ‘PIP Teams’, who led the design process and thank you, to all parents and staff who supported the many fundraising activities, over the last few years.
I’d also like to thank the parents, school and council staff who have worked with me this session to ensure this project is completed. In particular, Mark Roberts, Neil Thomas, Maeve Fryday and Ann Bain who have given an enormous amount of time and expertise to ensure all statutory requirements for this project have been met. It is very much appreciated.
We shall try, as much as possible, to minimise disruptions during the playground improvements. However, your help and understanding if the locations of lines change during this time is appreciated. It will be worth it!
Please refer to the link below to see the playground plans.
Kind regards,
Carol Kyle
